This 10 inch tall crystalline glazed vase was hand thrown on the potters wheel using about 8 lbs of porcelain clay. When leather hard the vase was trimmed to remove excess clay before being bisc fired and then glazed. The crystals you can see in the surface of the glaze are not an added decoration but form naturally in the glaze during a complicated firing cycle. Crystalline ceramics are difficult to produce but the end results can be stunning. In this piece the crystal formation flow around the entire vase and compliment the sensuous shape of the vase.
