This beautiful delicate porcelain vase was hand thrown on the potters wheel, then dried to the leather hard stage, before the top was modelled by hand to add to the individuality of the finished piece. Once the vase was completely dry a red slip was applied before the first firing. The crystalline glaze was brushed onto the vase by hand then glaze fired to very high temperatures so the natural crystals could form in the surface of the glaze. The steel blue crystals you can see are a natural phenomena produced by the glaze recipe and firing schedule.
This vase stands about 7 inches tall and is 6 inches at the widest point. Crystalline glazed ceramics is a very difficult type of pottery to make requiring precision, dedication and a good deal of luck! There are many failures, which is why relatively few potters specialise in this area.

The result is an entirely unique ceramic creation which stands on its own as a piece of art. Thank you for reading.
