This stunning example of crystalline ceramics stands 9 inches tall and is about 6 inches wide. It was made with porcelain clay on the potters wheel and is completely original because I never repeat exactly the same shape over and over. The deep blue crystals are clearly defined and well spaced out around the entire form. The crystal formation is entirely random, produced by the glaze formula and complicated firing schedule. Sometimes the form of the pot and distribution of crystals combine to produce something special, as is the case with this piece.
The formula for the blue crystalline glaze is my own recipe and has taken many years to produce and refine. It is extremely sensitive to the quantities and quality of materials. The firing schedule requires a maximum temperature of nearly 1280 degrees centigrade followed by slow cooling over several hours. All in all this is a fantastic example of crystalline ceramics.
