This beautiful posy bowl was hand thrown on the potter's wheel using porcelain clay. It is 5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The green crystalline glaze has produced organic looking crystals that flow around outside of the bowl. It gives the delicate bowl a naturalistic organic feel which would compliment flowers beautifully. Totally original ceramic art.

Crystalline glazed pottery is a contemporary technique, in which a special special glaze formula, and firing schedule, are combined to produce natural Willemite crystals in the surface of the glaze. The crystal formations you can see are not an added decoration, but rather the effects of firing to a high temperature, followed by very slow, controlled, cooling cycles. The distribution and shape of crystals is therefore dependant on the natural interaction of glaze materials and firing, with the shape of the pot. The results, though random and nature dependant, can produce a wonderful combination of form and crystals, giving each piece its own unique identity. There is a very high failure rate with this type of pottery, which deters many potters from trying the technique, hence the relative rarity and price. You can be assured, therefore, that every piece of my crystalline glazed pottery will be a one of kind piece of ceramic art.

When I sit down to throw on the potter's wheel, I never deliberately throw the same shape, again and again. I prefer to make something new, and different, every time, using classic Greek and Roman shapes as inspiration. When combined with the uniqueness of a crystalline glaze, I believe the result is something to be treasured. I hope you do too.
