This round bellied vase was hand thrown on the potters wheel using about 4 pounds of pure porcelain clay. When leather hard the vase was trimmed then the rim sculpted into the form you see here. The light green crystalline glaze is my own recipe and complements the rounded shape and sculpted top perfectly.
The turquoise crystals you can see in the surface of the glaze are produced naturally during the complicated firing schedule, which requires several hours of careful cooling, before the crystals can form. They are entirely random but add to the individuality of each piece and in this case definitely enhance the beauty of the rounded belly.
This is a one of a kind creation which took several weeks to complete, but I hope you agree that the end result is a wonderful piece of ceramic art.
