This stunning blue and red crystalline vase stands about 12 and half inches tall and is 6 inches at the widest point. It was hand thrown on the potters wheel using porcelain and stoneware clay before being sprayed with a red porcelain slip. The piece was then fired twice to very high temperatures before being glazed with a blue crystalline glaze, which was brushed on by hand. The shape of this vase is elegant and has beautiful proportions. It would make a wonderful display piece or a functional flower vase.
Crystalline ceramics are difficult to produce, requiring careful glazing and firing and there is a very high failure rate. Hence the rarity of this type of pottery, but the end results can be truly stunning and unique. Many thanks for reading.
